A couple from Nottingham won the National Lottery’s Set For Life, which pays them £10k (R169,902) per month for 30 years of which they spend on ghost-hunting trips. The couple quit their day jobs to attend ‘lots more paranormal activities’ and document their experiences online.

'We gave away £60m'

A £115million (over R1,9 Billion) payout is enough to not only change the winner’s life but also the lives of everyone around them. Frances and Patrick Connolly gave up over half of their winnings to 175 people. "That’s £60 Million (over R1,01 Billion) worth of love," Frances said. "I’ve had more joy from changing lives than buying jewellery. However, the Connolly’s did splurge on a £1.9 Million (R32 Million) five-bedroom house, a second-hand Jaguar for £2,000 (R33,960) and a trip to New Zealand, flying business class.

Lotto cash 'flushed down the loo'

Angela Maier reportedly flushed her €400,000 (over R6,7 Million) winnings down the toilet to avoid paying for hospice bills for her late husband. The German lottery winner was said to have been served with a bill from the hospice that cared for her husband before he passed away, shortly after her win. Instead of paying, she claims to have drunk five bottles of Champagne and tore up all 800 of the €500 (R8,495) notes she won and flushed them down the toilet. Nonetheless, she did settle the €4,000 (R67,924) bill.
