Today marked the last day of LottoStar and Jacaranda FM’s Good Morning Angels’ support and financial relief for 100 households or families. We are glad that 100 households were able to receive their share of the R1 million to help with groceries and essentials during the national lockdown. Recipient 1: The Schoeman family from Krugersdorp, Gauteng
21-year-old Jason Schoeman reached out to GMA requesting help for his struggling family. Jason’s father has been unable to work since the lockdown and had to use his last income to pay rent after their landlord threatened them with eviction. The family has no food and Jason overheard his parent’s private chats about not being able to provide for them. Jason’s mother can’t work as she has to take care of him. He suffers from Cerebral Palsy and has difficulty walking and uses one arm. We’ve sent R10 000 in Angel Rands to Jason and his family to assist with groceries and essentials through this difficult time.
Recipient 2: Patrick Malika, school bus driver from Soshanguve, Gauteng
Patrick is struggling to provide food for his family of 3. He works as a school bus driver and unable to earn to an income due to the Covid-19 pandemic. His wife is unemployed and he’s the only breadwinner in his family. His family’s situation is very dire and his mother, a pensioner, used her social grant to buy them a bag of potatoes and mealie meal but that is now finished. We’ve sent R10 000 to Patrick and his family to help with groceries and essentials during the lockdown.
Recipient 3: Sarie Swanepoel from Middleburg, Mpumalanga
Sarie is nominated by her friend, Gretchen, to receive R10 000 in Angel Rands during this difficult period. Sarie looks after her husband who is suffering from terminal cancer and only has a few months left to live. She’s responsible for bathing, feeding and changing his nappies, daily. Sarie bakes pancakes for her local retailer just to feed her family but that had to be put on hold due to the lockdown restrictions. We’ve sent Sarie and her family R10 000 in Angel Rands to help with groceries and essentials.
Recipient 4: Waiter staff at a Restaurant where Ricky Fourie is the manager
Ricky is a manager at his friends’ restaurant that started operating early this year in February. He is worried about his waiter staff who barely earn enough wages and rely mostly on tips. The restaurant had to close due to the lockdown. With families to feed, Ricky’s waiter staff is suffering and starving with no wages or income to rely on. We’ve sent R10 000 to Ricky and his waiter staff to help with groceries and essentials needed during the lockdown.
Recipient 5: Ds Wouter de Vos and the CMR Daspoort food bank
Marina Hand is a congregant at the Dutch Reformed Church in Wonderboom Poort, that helps provide food or food parcels to the CMR and the needy nearby the church. She wrote to us requesting assistance for CMR as they are struggling to stay ahead and assist the poor during the lockdown period. Their shelves or food cabinets are empty. Marina and her fellow congregants try to assist financially where they can, but a large portion of the congregation consists of the elderly. Cash is coming in slowly for everyone and Marina turned to us for assistance. We’ve sent R10 000 in Angel Rands to Marie and the CMR to assist with groceries and essentials.
