This Good Friday, six more families receive a helping hand in the LottoStar and East Coast Radio 100 households initiative. Spread hope and be a light in someone’s life by nominating a household or family that needs finical relief during this difficult time. Listen to East Coast Radio each day and nominate a household.

Recipient 1, Rubeshen Moodley

Rubeshen was nominated by his neighbour, Bhanwathy Nathoo. Rubeshen is a bus driver and the breadwinner in his family, he starts work very early and finishes late in the evening. He works seven days a week so that he can afford to put food on the table for his family. Rubeshen is now on unpaid leave as the company he is employed by has no money to pay him because of the lockdown. Last month Rubeshen’s house caught on fire and him and his family lost all their valuables. Rubeshen is a single dad as his wife passed away three years ago and needs to provide for his family during this difficult time. Rubeshen is one of the recipients of R10 000.

Recipient 2, Sheralee Joliffe-Cathro

Sheralee is a swim coach, she teaches swimming at some of the schools in town and she runs a learn to swim program in a gym. Before the lockdown began Sheralee relied on the fees from the schools and her learn to swim program as an income. Those swimmers do not pay any fees during the winter months, therefore, her income is considerably lowered under normal circumstances. Due to the early closing of schools and the lockdown, Sheralee has lost some of her winter nest egg. Sheralee who is a single mother to twin boys can’t afford to have a place of her own and lives with her brother and her mother. Her brother recently lost his job, so he is also living in the house with his wife and their two small kids. Sheralee is currently the sole breadwinner for this family of eight and now she has to face the reality of not having her usual savings to sustain her through the lockdown. Thanks to Ilza Wichmann’s nomination, Sheralee is one of the recipients of R10 00.

Recipient 3, Christopher Dorasamy

Christopher was nominated by Andre Oosthuyzen and is one of the recipients of R10 000. Christopher is self-employed but due to the lockdown he cannot continue with his work. His dad recently passed away and he is a breadwinner to his mother sister and niece. Christopher will do anything for his family but the lockdown has made it difficult for him to provide for them.

Recipient 4, Delisile Radebe

Delisile is one of the recipients of R10 000 and was nominated by Thulani Chirwa. Delisile is a mother of three and a grandmother to two grandchildren, both of her sons are unemployed and her daughter is in high school. Delisile and her family all live in a two-room shack with her husband who is also unemployed. Over the last five years, Delisile has occasionally worked for Thulani, doing his laundry and housework. She is not able to work due to the lockdown which means she cannot earn an income over this period. Delisile is compassionate and a dedicated and a loving mother to her family.

Recipient 5, Simone Bennett

Simone is a single mother to three daughters, her children’s father left which means she has to raise her children on her own. Simone works at a creche but due to lockdown she cannot work and is not earning an income. She is already behind on her rent payments and currently has no electricity which is essential as her baby needs warm milk. Simone is running her home on absolutely nothing and is in desperate need of financial assistance. Thanks to Simmone Mahadeo’s nomination, Simone is one of the recipients of R10 000.

Recipient 6, Megiel Coetzee

Megiel was nominated by Derek Osborne and is one of the recipients of R10 000. Megiel is a handyman who does occasional handy work to support his family of three. Since the lockdown, he does not have any income to support his family and his in laws as they live with him too. Megiel will go out of his way to help everyone, he is always friendly and willing to assist others. Megiel’s family need financial assistance through the lockdown.
