LottoStar has taken a meaningful step forward to help change the daily school experience for learners in KwaZulu-Natal by funding the installation of clean, flushable toilets at three underprivileged schools in the province.
Through the Santa’s Stash competition in partnership with East Coast Radio, a total of R1,8 Million was raised for the station’s Big Favour initiative. These funds went directly towards building safe, dignified sanitation facilities at Maliphume Primary School, Linwood Combined Primary, and Songozini Primary School, with implementation support from Breadline Africa.
For many learners, unsafe sanitation has been a daily reality for far too long – a challenge that affects not only their health, but also their confidence, attendance, and ability to focus in the classroom. Access to proper sanitation is not a luxury. It is a basic human right and a critical part of creating a safe, supportive learning environment where children can thrive.
By replacing unsafe facilities with hygienic, flushable toilets, this initiative restores dignity and peace of mind to both learners and educators. It is a practical change that will have a lasting impact on the school day for hundreds of children.
This project forms part of LottoStar’s broader commitment to making a positive difference beyond entertainment. When communities are supported in meaningful ways, real change becomes possible – and in this case, that change starts with something as essential as a safe place for a child to go to the bathroom at school.
LottoStar is proud to have partnered with East Coast Radio and Breadline Africa to bring this important project to life and looks forward to continuing efforts that uplift and empower communities across South Africa.
